Idle Thoughts

 May Memories

May was the month my Dad always claimed was his least favorite. The reason?? It was expensive!! Mom's birthday was on the 7th, then my brother on the 19th, my niece on the 20th, my sister on the 28th and then mine on the 31st. Now can you blame the man?? He loved August. The 1st was their anniversary and the 7th was his birthday.

I often remember happy times when my parents were still with us. They both died in the month of August, but 2 years apart. Mom in '94 and Dad in '96. I sit here and think of other things that happened around that time and it seems so long ago. But when I think of Mom and Dad, it was yesterday.

Mom died of cancer. She was suffering so her death was a blessing. Dad suffered with heart problems. After Mom was gone he was never the same. Sad and lonely. They had been married 43 years. So the night he sat down to have a nap before cooking his dinner and never woke up, was hard, but both my sister and I felt the same thing. We both visualized Mom walking up to him, tapping him on the shoulder and saying, "Come on Sam it's time to go home". I know in my heart that is just what both of them have done.

My sister and I will be getting together this weekend to celebrate of birthdays together. We have decided to Bar BQ in her back yard. It is easier that way since her husband is not doing well right now. We get together every year as our birthday are four day apart. It seems strange to remember now, but before we were both 30 we could not be alone in a room together!! We could not stand each other. I guess age is good for several things.

OK, I have bored everyone long enough. I am having a sentimental night. Happily most of my memories are happy ones.

God bless,
Granny

 All Kinds of Good News...

Let me see. My nephew and his wife are having a baby girl. Her name will be Taylor Rae. Why this is so extra exciting??? My nephew was never suppose to be able to have a child. Praise be to God!!! Due in August.

Next my niece is having a baby boy. They say they are going to name him Bear. And why not??? It is really exciting as this is my brother's only child. That will bring my baby brother into the "Grandparent" era... Due in September.

Also, this afternoon I got a call from Miss Terri. She was concerned because the State is going to make her carry health insurance on my boys. She was concerned that we would lose the grant we have from the State for the boys. Well, that is not a big thing to us. Besides IF both parents pay their support, we will be dropped and receive the larger amount of support. So how is that going to hurt?? I asked her if she had asked about putting her own 2 little ones on the insurance?? No, she hadn't thought about that. In about 5 minutes she was screaming in my ear !!! YES!!! Her two could be added on with no additional cost. Now that is awesome news. They have been without medical for a while. Another problem solved.

Branden was having trouble with one of his bus drivers again. She wanted to kick him off the bus for 10 days because he laughs too loud. She even went so far as to write him up. Well, the bull in the china shop got mad!!! (ME) I emailed the head of transportation, and special education. I told them just what I felt was going on. I was a full page email!!! Any whoo, G-pa got a phone call from the very head of transportation and told him that they would be transporting Branden and she bent over backwards apologizing for that driver's actions.

Did I cause any other problems today??? No, that was all, but that was plenty. This woman should not be driving a special needs bus.

That is how my last 24 hours went, how was yours??

Stay safe and happy,
Granny

 The end of the weekend..

Oh well, tomorrow it is back to normal. Up at 7AM and out the door about 8:20AM. But I counted and it is only22 more days and school will be out until Sept. I think I can handle that.

During these next few weeks I have to get all my 5th grade files ready to move to another school. I have a group of incoming Kindergartners to get into the computer and I have to try to get the 5th grader's parents to get their 6th grade shots. I am afraid that this year I am going to have several who have not done as requested.
It is all busy paper work and I like that. Yes, you could call me a paperwork person. I have always liked it.

The weekend was not as spectacular as Friday, but it was good. The lawn is freshly cut, and the yard looks much better than before the weekend. G-pa worked on the boat most of today. He is bound and determined to get that boat in the water this year. I won't stand in his way! My only concern is GAS!! He claims it doesn't take that much to take it out. but to me, any is too much at these prices. (I would love to go back to $0.25 per gallon. Yes, I remember that. I dream!!!

My sister is trying to get me to commit to going out to dinner for our birthdays. They are four days apart so we celebrate together. It is fun. For those four days, we are the same age. Oh, how I enjoy those days. You see she is my "little" sister. So having her the same age is fun. Thanks Mom. She is talking seafood and I am in the mood for good Chinese. So we will have to work on this...

Well, I should get out of here and start getting the boys settled for the night. Not my favorite past-time. You would think at their ages they could figure out it is time to go to bed. They have to get up early for school. But every night I have to tell them to turn off the TV and get to bed. If I don't, they won't. Ridiculas!!!

Night all,
Granny

 A Good Day

Days like today remind me why I love being alive. Yes, it was a very nice day. It started with a meeting about Billy, and it couldn't have gone better. Everyone there full realized that his behaviors are caused by his disabilities. Also we were able to tell them that in therapy he has start desensitization. It was a very positive meeting. (Only 4 weeks of school left.)

Then of course having the sun out and the flowers blooming all over didn't hurt at all. It was a beautiful day. At school the kids had a ball. Being able to get out there and play in the sun was great. The smells in the air of the grass, the flowers and people burning. All the smells of spring.

But to my surprise, I walked into the house and Branden had decided to get his hair cut. What a pleasant surprise!! He claims to want his hair long. but, he looks so handsome with a nice haircut. Yes, I am old fashioned but that is me, can't help it. He told me, "You know, I figured out I can grow my hair long any time in the future". WOW what a statement.

Every day I thank God for the gifts he gives me. Some days it is harder than others to think of things. But, then I remember I am alive and can serve Him. That is a big gift. Tonight I am going to bed feeling just a bit spoiled, and very thankful for my family and friends.

Good night my friends,
Granny
