Idle Thoughts

 Thursday... What a day...
Back to Full Blog

My day started with a phone call from a father who's step son had just had a field trip the Friday before the long weekend. It seems that his son got overheated and dehydrated and ended up one sick guy. His liver is swollen and he is still not doing well.

I touched base with the teachers. They were shocked as it was not a hot day and there were drinking fountains all over the zoo. Back to my office and email the nurse I work with and the principal. Got to keep them in the loop. At the end of this crazy day I get a thank you for the information email back from the principal. He asked if I thought he should follow up. I gave him the home number.

OK, now down to work. I am still trying to get letters out to all of the incoming Kindergartners that need shots. By the end of the day I had finished that chore. BUT, during the day was crazy as I said.

My student with diabetes sugar level went off the chart. I called the Mom and she came over to check the pump. I got orders that if the blood sugars were still high at lunch I was to call the grandmother to come and change the set. At lunch the numbers were a tiny bit lower, but not into the safety zone yet. Grandma came and all the meter would say is HI. That means the student is over 500. Grandma gave the student a shot the old fashioned way. By the end of the day the student was still at 396. I called Mom again and she said it was OK for the student to ride the bus home.

During all this, I had another student come in and tell me she was down by the backstop and a board fell and hit her on top of the head!!!! I went into high gear!! I got the custodian checking the backstop for safety issues. Got ahold of the principal and told him. He was not happy. Thankfully the girl was OK.

So the day was insane. But I made it through. I get home and so far things are calm.

Take care and be safe,
Granny
