Idle Thoughts

 Coming to the End.
Back to Full Blog

This school year is finally closing. I am glad. Not because of my work, but due to the stress from the boys trying to get them through. At this point it looks like Branden pulled it off. He just might have passed all his classes. He is already talking about how he feels he will fall behind in classes next year. With that attitude.... Yes he will. How do I get through to him that he is capable and can do these assignments and on time????

And then, there is Billy. He is in his bedroom working like a mad fool trying to save the little bit of credit he has gained for this semester. He has 6 tests to complete, and an essay comparing and contrasting the book and the movie for "To Kill a Mocking Bird." He was supposed to watch the movie, but since we can not get the movie I told him to pull down several opinions from the web and then write a paper. BUT, I told him to preface his paper with a statement that he could not get the movie so he used this other method. I will have him include the papers he pulled down. I hope that will do it. It is the best we can do.

I just do not understand why kids do this to themselves??? I am seriously considering talking with the SPED teacher. Billy is on an IEP, (Individual Educational Plan)so she has a lot to do with his plan. I am beginning to believe that some of Billy's behaviors could be directly connected to his frustration about getting assignments finished and turned in. We all know he is capable of doing the work, but there is some kind of a road block out there that is stopping him. This something we have to figure out.

Tomorrow we head out to my son's for his b-day and Father's Day rolled into one. I am making a potato salad for the dinner. The boys are happy about that.

OK, that is it for now.
Hugs around the stream.

Granny,

I couldn't read the purple against the purple, so I copied it and put on a doc so I could read it - just thought you might want to know.

As a former school counselor, I am aware of IEPs. They are only as good as the paper they are written on if the teachers, etc. don't follow through.

I am sorry that Bill seems such a discouraged child (by the way there is an excellent book by that title. I know it isn't because of you - you have tried and done your best!.

I am sure you are glad to get the school year behind you.

GRanny - hopefully the boys will do rather well in spite of the choices they have made through the year. I trust that Sunday will be a great day - June

Thank June, I am sure it will be. With 5 acres to run and a strong Christian home to be in, I am always rewarded there. You and Ron have a good day also. Cheryl

Ron, That is very true about IEP's. BUT, remember I am there fighting and I know the system. I have my AA in Paraeducation. So I am just a little bit trained too. I have no quames about getting surley. I believe in dotting the i's and crossing the t's, and they will follow what is written. That is a live document and I am not above changing it.

Sorry about the purple. I think it is pretty. I'll see what else I can find that is pretty.. Cheryl

Granny - i is pretty - I just can't see it

You and Miss June know how to rattle those school administrators with your tenacity - and knowledge of the law - just tell them you will call the feds- they hate that!

You can get any educational movie at the public library. You can also download the movie from the internet. You can even check out any book from the library on the internet and they give you 24 hours to read it.

Tell the boys I said I'm such a proud cousin! I am glad they are catching up to their work. I am also aware that while public education is beneficial, spiritual education is what we need for everlasting life.

I believe that all my growth in life has been through spiritual food, when I fall away from it, things don't really matter and I have no vision of my future or my present. Spirituality humbles me. Love you Granny. (((((((((((((Big hugs for your husband for being a wonderful grandpa to all his children).
